White shrimp are grayish and have no grooves on their head or tail. Their antennae are black and very long. These popular shrimp are predominant in summer and early fall.

A historic and huge shrimp industry exists in Louisiana and continues today. The benefit of the Mississippi River bringing nutrients to the Gulf has created a rich estuary that supports vast amounts of life, including shrimp. White shrimp can be found in the Atlantic and Gulf coastal waters.

Shrimp are normally caught by recreational anglers with cast nets, seines and trawls. These shrimp are used as bait or eaten.
