The eastern snapping turtle is native to a wide range of the United States; however, it is only found in central to northern portions of Louisiana. These turtles can be found in a variety of waters including lakes, ponds and bayous. Unlike the alligator snapping turtle, it often travels across land. The eastern snapping turtle feeds on both plants and animals.
