Cuban bulrush is a non-native aquatic plant that was introduced from Central and South America. It is an invasive grass-like plant that can be spread by wind and water currents, or by attaching to wildlife. It typically grows on top of other vegetation to begin raft-formation and can eventually form large surface mats that can inhibit boat access. It is found in many waterbodies throughout Louisiana. Caution is advised to prevent the spread of this plant into areas where it does not currently exist.
