There are many freshwater lakes in Louisiana that share the same rich diversity of fish and life that the Mississippi river system has. These lakes are larger self-contained bodies of water and they support a wide variety of life and recreational activity. Fishing for bass, crappie and catfish are among the top priorities of lake fishermen. Alligators are also living in these water bodies and at times, permitted hunters are allowed to take a certain number of alligators in order to manage their numbers.
