The Fisheries Extension Outreach Program encourages people to be responsible, licensed anglers by organizing community fishing events and developing opportunities for anglers to work as citizen scientists and participate in the conservation of Louisiana’s aquatic resources.

Fisheries Extension Outreach Mission

During Outreach events, LDWF strives to uphold the following mission:

The Fisheries Extension Outreach Program encourages people to be responsible, licensed anglers by organizing community fishing events and developing opportunities for anglers to work as citizen scientists and participate in the conservation of Louisiana’s aquatic resources.

The Program promotes awareness of the Sport Fish Restoration Act, a user-pay, user-benefit program that uses angler support to help ensure the future of recreational fishing in Louisiana for generations to come. Outreach efforts create visibility for the agency, build a unified understanding of the agency’s mission, and develop partnerships with the community.

Outreach Event Request Criteria

The LDWF Fisheries Extension Outreach Program receives numerous requests each year to attend events. Unfortunately, we are unable to attend every event due to availability of staff and resources. Each request will be considered on a case by case basis; however, priority will be given to those organizations that meet the primary criteria listed below.

  • The requesting organization must promote the mission statement listed above at their event.
  • The requesting organization itself must have as part of its mission the provision of fisheries, conservation, or outdoor education.
  • The requesting organization must submit a LDWF Biologist Request Form <Link to Biologist Request Form> at least 90 days prior to event.
  • The requesting organization must submit a Mobile Aquarium Request Form <Link to Mobile Aquarium Request Form> at least 120 days prior to event when requesting the Mobile Aquarium.
  • The requesting organization must provide a minimum number of expected guests for the event.

Should there be a request for Fisheries Extension Outreach services that does not meet the above screening criteria, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries may choose to attend event or provide outreach materials to the requesting organization based upon:

  1. Availability of Outreach resources during the specified event date.
  2. Ability of requesting organization to preserve or contribute to the above mission statements.
  3. Special circumstances that may have contributed to the requesting organization’s inability to meet the above criteria.

The LDWF Fisheries Extension Outreach Program will NOT provide outreach services to:

  • Organizations that discriminate based on membership in a protected class, including but not limited to age, race, color, gender, religion, or national origin.
  • Events that do not promote a positive image of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Request Process

All requests for LDWF Fisheries Extension Outreach must be made using the Biologist Request Form and/or Mobile Aquarium Request Form. A member of LDWF Fisheries Extension staff will respond to the request by telephone or email in 5 days after the request is made. Submission of the Request Forms does not guarantee that a request will be fulfilled.

Review and approval of requests is required before the LDWF logo and name can be used in event promotion.
